About Us

Driven by a passion for sustainable agriculture and community empowerment.

Who Are We?

Sun And Soil Foundation is a Malawian non-profit organisation strengthening rural livelihoods by integrating solar powered irrigation, climate-smart agriculture, and structured capacity building.

We support smallholder farmers, women, youths, and all vulnerable groups at risk to move from climate-vulnerable subsistence farming toward productive, market-oriented, and resilient agricultural systems.

Our work combines renewable energy deployment, hands-on training, and inclusive enterprise development, aligned with Malawi Vision 2063, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and ESG principles.

To date, Sun And Soil Foundation has implemented solar-powered irrigation installations and capacity-building programmes across Malawi, supporting 10 smallholder farmers and training 85 women, youth, and farmers, enabling year-round production, reduced fuel dependency, and improved household food security. Over the next five years, Sun And Soil Foundation aims to reach 50,000 farmers nationwide.

Our Story

2023

How It Started (2023)

Sun And Soil Foundation began in 2023 with a clear focus: helping smallholder farmers in Malawi cope with climate uncertainty, unreliable rainfall, and limited access to energy, combined with practical farming skills could unlock year-round production and more stable livelihoods.

From Concept to Action

Our first solar powered irrigation pilot was implemented in Mzimba, proving water access can reduce fuel dependence, and support consistent production even during dry periods.

2024

Growing Reach (2024)

Building on early success, we expanded into Nkhotakota, Nkhatabay, Mzuzu, and Lilongwe. Alongside solar irrigation installations, we delivered hands-on training in agribusiness and climate-smart agriculture, with a strong focus on women, youth, and other vulnerable groups.

The Path Ahead (2025-2030)

Today, Sun And Soil Foundation is scaling, a proven, community-rooted model. Our goal is to reach 50,000 farmers by 2030, aligned with Malawi Vision 2063, supporting climate-resilient agriculture, inclusive livelihoods, and long-term food security through clean energy.
