Empowering Women Through Agribusiness
Lilongwe just saw the graduation of 35 remarkable women who are redefining what farming looks like in Malawi. Over the past three months, they haven't just learned how to grow crops; they've learned how to run businesses.
The Business of Farming
At Sun & Soil Foundation, we believe that economic empowerment is the cornerstone of community resilience. Our "Empowering Women Through Agribusiness" program goes beyond traditional agricultural training to provide intensive coaching in financial literacy, market analysis, and value-chain management.
"I used to grow maize and tobacco because that's what everyone else did," explains Martha, a program graduate. "Now I understand market demand. I've switched to high-value legumes and vegetables, and I track every kwacha spent and earned. My farm is now a business."

Breaking Barriers
Women perform the majority of agricultural labour in rural Malawi, yet they often have the least access to training and financial resources. This program specifically targets these gaps by providing mentorship and linking graduates to micro-credit facilitators.
The graduation ceremony in Lilongwe was not just the end of a course; it was the beginning of a community of practice. These women are now mentors for others in their villages, creating a ripple effect of knowledge and empowerment.
